Local economy: The wood industry
 


The Lorraine Region is French number one wood producing region (850,000 hectares of forests).

"In addition of its environmental importance and tourist attraction, the forest is a major asset to our region economic development.";. More precisely, the wood industry with a thousand companies that employ more than 11,000 workers remains one of the key industries of the economy of the Vosges Departement.

Species most commonly found in our forests are the beech, the oak and the hornbeam.

Companies specialised in the production of furniture :
with 300 companies and 4,000 workers, the Vosges Departement remains the main French producer of furniture. The company “Manufacture Vosgienne de Meubles” located in Mattaincourt is an important employer for the area.
