Domjulien "Domnus Julianus, Dompjulien" dates back a very long time.  The commune is mentioned in a bull from Alexandre III in 1179. In the 15th century, it was owned by the De Ville family in Illon, which Coat of Arms was found on a crest placed in the keystone of the church.

On the death of Antoine de Ville, Lord of Domjulien, his widow, to meet his last will, built in the church in 1425 a chapel dedicated to Saint-Antoine.
