Claude Antoine Gabriel, DUKE of CHOISEUL-STAINVILLE (1760-1838), put his mark on Houécourt history.
- He lived in the reign of King Louis XV and Minister CHOISEUL.
- Owner of the castle in 1808, he married the niece of Minister CHOISEUL.
- Mayor of Houécourt from 1810 to 1838, he was the first Mayor in the Vosges Departement to set up a school.
- General Councillor (1812), he was three times President of Vosges General Council (1818-19, 1822-1831, 1834-1835)

- Aide-de-Camp to the King of the French
- Founder of Vosges Departemental Museum in 1822, he donated 25 paintings including the famous JOB of Georges De la Tour
- Died in Paris on the 1st of December 1838, he was buried in Houécourt in the vault of the Castrale Chapel on 10th of December 1838.
- The Marchioness of Pompadour, Louis XV favorite, stayed in Houécourt castle as CHOISNEUL guest, there is a named-place “La Pompadour” where the marchioness was often going to have her bath.
